About Jim

Jim is a 35-year finance professional whose entire career has been focused on lending, with extensive experience in real estate, consumer, and commercial lending. After holding senior management positions at Byron Bank and Chemical Bank West, Jim came to Lake Michigan Credit Union in 2014 as the Senior Vice President of Premier Banking.

A graduate of Western Michigan University (WMU), he holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a minor in business, and he’s also done post-graduate work at WMU. He previously served six years on the Haworth College of Business Advisory Board of Directors and three years on the WMU Alumni Association Board.

Jim is on the board of directors for two non-profit organizations in Grand Rapids that provide financial support to WMU’s athletic department. He’s been involved with Cascade Township Government since 1983, serving as Chairman of both the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. Jim is currently serving his fourth four-year term as a publicly elected trustee of Cascade Township where he is Chairman of the Finance Committee and a member of the Personnel Committee.

Jim has been recognized three times by the Grand Rapids Association of Realtors as Affiliate of the Year for his service to the local community.

Jim and his wife, Carlee, are proud parents of son, Brian Koessel—a Juris Doctor graduate working for the United States Department of Defense—and daughter, Dr. Major Kimberly Koessel—a PhD in psychology /Private Practice.
