Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) is proud to announce the return of its Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship program. This annual contest awards $2,000 scholarships to 20 winning high school seniors who submit essays addressing a chosen prompt.
The 2025–26 Hutt Scholarship essay topic is: How do you stay authentic to yourself and your values in today’s fast-paced world, where so much takes place online?
The program honors the educational and philanthropic legacy of LMCU founder and teacher, Lloyd F. Hutt, while this year’s prompt seeks to address the ever-increasing impact of the internet, social media, and artificial intelligence on the next generation of young professionals. Since 1991, the Hutt Scholarship competition has awarded over $620,000 to help students further their education at a college, university, or trade school. The competition officially opened for submissions on October 1, 2025, and will remain open through December 15, 2025. Applicants are required to write an original 750–1,500-word essay exploring the above topic. Submitted essays will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges, and 20 winners will be chosen.
All applicants must be high school seniors, including homeschooled students, who plan to enter a trade school, college, or university in the next academic year. All applicants must be one of the following: a resident of Michigan or Florida, a member of LMCU, or the child of an LMCU member. More eligibility details are available at LMCU.org/Hutt.
Interested high school seniors can submit their essay or find more information on eligibility and formatting at LMCU.org/Hutt. Winners will first be notified directly and then publicly announced in the spring on LMCU’s website and social media pages.
