Detroit, MI May 13, 2026 – Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) is proud to commemorate the recent opening of its Downtown Detroit Branch with a ribbon-cutting event to be held 3 – 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, at the new branch, located at 2715 Woodward Ave, Suite A, Detroit, MI 48201.
Serving as both a celebration of community and LMCU's continued commitment to meaningful growth in Southeast Michigan, the invitation-only event will bring together LMCU leadership and local officials, business owners, and community partners for an intimate milestone celebration.
LMCU President and CEO Julie Leonard shared her enthusiasm for the occasion.
“Opening on Woodward Avenue is a milestone we’ve worked toward with great intention,” Leonard said. “Detroit has always set the standard for hard work, resilience, and community pride — and we’re honored to be part of it. We’re not just opening a branch here. We’re making a long-term commitment to the people and communities along the Woodward corridor.”
LMCU Branch Market Leader Byron Sanders, who will lead the new Downtown Detroit Branch, echoed that commitment.
“We may be new to the neighborhood, but we’re already committed to it,” Sanders said. “My team and I are here to make banking feel less like a transaction and more like a partnership. Becoming a member takes just minutes — but the relationship will last a lifetime.”
As part of its community commitment, LMCU will donate $10 to MCHS Family of Services for every new membership opened at the Downtown Detroit Branch through the end of June. MCHS is a Michigan nonprofit that has spent more than a century creating brighter futures for children, families, and older adults across the state, providing child welfare, housing, mental health, and community services.
